Hi! Yolk is owned by me, Maria Neuman. I took over this lovely Silverlake business in the beginning of 2007 after more than 15 years of writing for magazines on everything from fashion trends to gallery openings.

I'm not sure when the design obsession started (it could have been the Shrinky Dinks from the 70's) but, being Swedish, does leave me somewhat predisposed to go a bit nutty for oiled oak (like the Atlantico furniture we carry), Marimekko or anything with clean lines and bold colors.

The best part about owning a store is that I can sell whatever I want. That explains why half the store is adult and the other half is kid. The same great wooden toys that I grew up with, the coolest kids clothes, classic Swedish tableware, hand-embroidered pillows from India and wallets from New Zealand all live happily together under one colorful roof. Hence the "free range design" sub title.
